The 23rd International Congress of Historical Sciences (ICHS) will be held in Poznan, Poland in 2020.
The news was announced on Saturday at the closing ceremony of the 22nd ICHS held in Jinan, the capital of Shandong province in China from August 23rd to 29th.
Italian historian Andrea Giardin was elected as the president of the International Committee of Historical Sciences (2015-2020) and French historian Catherine Horel as secretary general.
Jinan was the first city in Asia to host a ICHS event since the ICHS was initiated in 1900.
Marjatta Hietala, president of 22nd ICHS, said at the closing ceremony, "wihith the 22nd ICHS, we have reached the goal of crossing borders in order to understand different cultures, ideologies, methods and to collaborate."
Robert Frank, secretary general of 22nd ICHS, highlighted the future of the historical sciences is the young researchers.
As one of the organizers of the 22nd ICHS, Shandong University proposed a donation of $10,000 for every future ICHS to set up the ICHS-Shandong University Poster Prize for young scholars.
