On June 25th, Shandong University Alumni Association in the UK held its official establishment ceremony at the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in the UK. Zhang Rong, President of Shandong University, attended the ceremony. SDU alumni meeting was also held.
In the ceremony, Zhang introduced the recent developments of Shandong University to alumni in UK, especially Premier Li Keqiang's inspection to SDU, "Double First Rate" (First Rate University and First Rate Discipline) plan of SDU and the construction of Qingdao campus. He also introduced educational ideas and achievements of innovation and entrepreneurship, and policies of introducing overseas talents to SDU. He also welcomed overseas students to return to SDU to work.
On the ceremony, Zhang presented the official flag to the Shandong University Alumni Association in the UK and announced the establishment of Shandong University Alumni Association in the UK.
Wang Chengxiang, President of the Shandong University Alumni Association in the UK, delivered welcoming remarks on behalf of his alumni and introduced the history, constitutions, charter and work being carried out and future plan of the Shandong University Alumni Association in the UK. He was very pleased that the Alumni Association in the UK had finally officially registered in his Alma Mater. He hoped that alumni would keep themselves connected to Shandong University and each other, and provide united alumni support the university's advancement. Alumni were all delighted about the development of their Alma Mater and willing to make contributions to the development of SDU.
Hao Yang, the initial President of Shandong University Alumni Association in the UK, hosted the ceremony. Liang Boshu, general representative of the China International Talent Exchange Association in Britain, as well as over 40 alumni of SDU in the UK attended the ceremony.
Before the ceremony, Zhu Qin, Deputy Director of the Chinese Embassy in the UK met President Zhang. He indicated that the extensive cooperation between Shandong University and the United Kingdom had contributed to the Sino-UK "golden age". The Chinese Embassy will continue to support Shandong University in actively participating in the cultural exchanges between China and the UK, deepening educational exchanges and enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.
The ceremony was attended by Professor Lu Maozu, Director of the Center for Globalization and Chinese Economy of Shandong University, representatives of the Department of the International Affairs at Shandong University and representatives at the Education Section of the Embassy in the UK.
