An event was held on July 19 in the Qingdao city campus of Shandong University in East China's Shandong province – to allow hundreds of professors to interact with companies to promote scientific results transfers and the potential commercialization of technical breakthroughs, according to reports in the local media.
To date, 12 projects are progressing towards commercial partnerships in the wake of the event, including the project of Shandong University's Professor Sun Qie. Another 10 projects have reportedly received initial expressions of interest from businesses.
The event was held to help remove nagging bottlenecks and other challenges that are preventing great ideas and achievements from being commercialized in Qingdao.
There are reportedly still problems, such as a dearth of effective matchmaking channels to negotiate scientific supply and market demand.
There is also the perceived inability of businesses to get urgent input from experts in the face of development challenges and technical difficulties.
Before the event, the Qingdao human resources and social security bureau put together a summary of the professors' scientific achievements and actual needs of firms with SDU, the Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Goertek Inc and other universities, research institutes and enterprises in Qingdao.
The summary contained details on 49 experts' scientific innovation projects, as well as innovation demands from 73 enterprises and requests from 226 enterprises for talent.
Moving forwards, there are plans for Qingdao to further optimize the list and provide targeted service guarantees for the cooperation projects.
