Recently, associate professor Wang Yunkun, from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shandong University, published his monograph entitled Development of Novel Bioelectrochemical Membrane Separation Technologies for Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recoveryin Springer Nature.
This book contain seven parts, covering the theory of electrochemical membrane technology, in-situ utilizing methods of bioelectricity, membrane fouling principle and control mechanism, resource recovery methods and strategies. In this book, novel electrochemical membrane bioreactors (EMBRs), which take advantage of membrane separation and bioelectrochemical techniques, are developed for wastewater treatment and the simultaneous recovery of energy and resources. The book also provides proof-of-concept studies showing that electrochemical control might offer a promising strategy for membrane fouling mitigation by in-situ utilization the generated electricity. By integrating electrodialysis into EMBRs, phosphate separation and recovery are achieved under the electric field. Thereby, these new EMBR techniques provide viable alternatives for sustainable wastewater treatment and resource recovery.
The series "Springer Theses" brings together a selection of the very best Ph.D. theses from around the world and across the physical sciences. Nominated and endorsed by two recognized specialists, each published volume are selected for its scientific excellence and impact of its contents for the pertinent field of research. For greater accessibility to non-specialists, the published versions include an extended introduction, as well as a foreword by the author’s supervisor explaining the special relevance of the work for the field.
As a whole, the series will provide a valuable resource both for newcomers to relevant research fields, and for other scientists seeking detailed background information on special questions. Finally, it provides an accredited documentation of the valuable contributions made by today's younger generation of scientists.
Dr. Wang Yunkunreceived his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from University of Science and Technology of China in 2014, and has carried out systematic research in developing membrane-based technologies for sustainable wastewater treatment since he joined SDU in 2014. Dr. Wang Yunkun adopts multidisciplinary approaches to tackle environmental problems, especially water pollution issues. His research interest lies in the development of novel membrane separation materials and processes for water treatment and resources recovery, with over 40 SCI research papers published on journals includingEnvironmental Science & Technology, Water ResearchandScience Advances. He wasawarded by Chinese Academy of Sciences with the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation.
