Recently, the research work titled "Transition-Metal Oxynitride: A Facile Strategy for Improving Electrochemical Capacitor Storage" is published on Advanced Materials(IF=21.95). This work is finished independently by the State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, Shandong University.Professor Hao Xiaopeng and associate professor Li Yanlu are the corresponding authors and Ph.D candidateWang Shouzhi is the first author of this paper.
Transition metal oxides have promising applications because of their high theoretical capacity, low cost and environmental friendliness. However, the poor conductivity and fragility of oxides seriously hinder their practical application. To address these crucial issue, Professor Hao Xiaopeng' group proposed a novel strategy constructing a certain thinner transition-metal oxynitride layer (TMON, M: Fe, Co, Ni and V) on the TMO nanowires. The unique oxynitride layer possesses numerous active sites, excellent conductivity and outstanding structural stability. These characteristics enhance specific capacitance and alleviate volume expansion effectively. Specifically, the specific capacity of the TMON electrode is enhanced by approximately 2-fold relative to that of its corresponding oxide. Notably, the capacitance of the TMON remains above 94% even after 10,000 cycles. First-principle calculations and quantitative kinetics analysis were performed to investigate the mechanism underlying the improved electrochemical performances of the TMON layers. This study may provide a novel avenue for the application of metal oxide electrodes in energy storage conversion and beyond.
Professor Hao Xiaopeng's group has been focusing on electrochemical energy storage and conversion for an extended period, and has obtained a series of innovative achievements. The relevant research results have been published in Adv. Mater.,Nano Energy,Appl. Catal. B: Environ.,J. Mater. Chem. A,Small and other famous international journals, and get a lot of attention from peers. The above researches are supported by the grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Major Basic Research Projects in Shandong Province and State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, Shandong University.
