From May 15th to 25th, SDU President Xu Xianming led a delegation of 5 members to Spain, Czech Republic and Germany, visiting the University of Alcalá in Spain, Tomas Bata University in Czech Republic, University of Freiburg in Germany, and German Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS), respectively.

During his visit in the University of Alcalá, Xu met with Fernando Galvan, President of University of Alcalá, and Elena López, Vice President of University of Alcalá.

Both sides hoped they will, based on the current exchanges and cooperation, extend the Spanish-language project cooperation into more areas in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries in South America, and particularly, establish multilateral cooperation among EU, China and South America, as well as develop cooperation on the tourism management major in Spanish-speaking countries.

After the meeting, Xu and his companions visited the Evaluation Council and the Ceremonial Auditorium of the Miguel de Cervantes Prize, which is regarded as a sort of Spanish-language Nobel Prize in Literature, and talked with the SDU students about their experiences there.

During Xu' s visit to Tomas Bata University in Zlin (TBU), Czech Republic, TBU’s President Petr Saha introduced comprehensive information on TBU and its development strategy for cooperation with China.

Saha expressed his hope that the two universities would strengthen their cooperation in EU projects, and he also encouraged high-level student exchange programs and joint student training by the Central and Eastern Europe Students under Chinese Government Scholarship - Credits Students' Program.

When Xu went to the University of Freiburg, Jürgen Rühe, Vice President of the University of Freiburg, introduced the school’s research advantages in the fields of law, cardiovascular disease and chemistry and expressed his hope that both sides will deepen the cooperation in cardiovascular disease and other relevant areas and promote student and scholar exchanges.

Xu also met with Haiyan Hu-von Hinüber, German director of Confucius Institute at the University of Freiburg, and Janina Leithold-Cünnen, Director of the Language Center of the University of Freiburg, to exchanges ideas about the promotion of Chinese culture courses and experience projects in both universities.

While visiting the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS), Xu gave an introduction about the establishment and development plan of the Qingdao Campus of SDU as well as information on medicine and health science courses.

Zou Nan, Director of SDU’s International Affairs Department, Yang Huixin, Dean of SDU’s School of Management, companied Xu on this visit.
