A joint performance celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea was held recently in the gymnasium at the Central Campus of Shandong University. This performance was held jointly by Shandong University, Chung-Ang University (CAU), and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU).

Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University, Prof. Park Bum Hoon, the former President of Chung-Ang University, as well as the current Senior Secretary for Education and Culture, Office of the President, Republic of Korea, and Honorary Doctorate Recipient of Shandong University, and Li Jianjun, Fang Hongjian, Tong Xinghua, the Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of Shandong University, and Hwang Seunghyeon, Consul-General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Qingdao, were represented the performance.

Students from Fine Arts School of Shandong University, School of Traditional Arts at CAU, and Department of Dance of School of Art at SKKU, participated in the performance together, and showed the Chinese Classical “Yayue” Culture as well as Chinese traditional dance, South Korean folk dance and so forth.

Shandong University signed Cooperation Agreements with Sunkyunkwan University and Chung-Ang University in May, 1993 and March, 2005, respectively. Since the agreements were signed, Shandong University has launched effective academic exchange and cooperation with the two universities, especially on the Course of Arts with Chung-Ang University. In June, 2007, October, 2008, and September, 2009, Shandong University held several joint performances with Chung-Ang University, which had garnered positive response in the two universities.

Up to now, Shandong University has built relations of friendship and cooperation with approximately 20 universities and research institutes in South Korea, and had launched multiple forms of academic and student exchange programs. This year was the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea. Promoted by Prof. Park Bum Hoon, Shandong University held joint performance with Chung-Ang University and Sunkyunkwan University, on celebrating the anniversary. Shandong University also took use of this activity to enhance the cultural communications with the two universities.
