From May 13th to 14th, Mr. Bill Moran, Global Director of International Cooperation and Operations forScience/ the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Associate Director Ms. Wu Ruolei, visited Shandong University. Xu Xianming, President of SDU, met with Mr. Moran and his delegation, and they talked about the cooperation between the two sides.

During the conversation, Xu welcomed Mr. Moran’s delegation to SDU, and gave a brief introduction into the history of Shandong University, reviewing the time when the SDU scholars first published articles onScience,Natureand other renowned magazines.
He hoped that the two sides could strengthen academic exchange and promote the university’s research publication and promotion of scientific research through the cooperation withScience.
Mr. Moran introduced the history and extended business ofScienceand AAAS. He expressed his hopes to cooperate with Shandong University on holding academic conference, lectures and other activities of academic exchanges as well as publishing.

Zhao Xian, the chief of the Department of Academic Research of SDU, Tong Guangwu, director of International Office of SDU, Gong Yaoqin, executive vice dean of School of Medicine of SDU, Liang Zuotang, dean of School of Physics of SDU, and Jin Guanghua, director of Editorial Board of Journal of Shandong University (Science and Technology), also attended the meeting.

On May 14th, heads and professors from SDU’s Department of Personnel, Department of Academic Research, International Office, Editorial Board of Journal of Shandong University, Institute of Crystal Materials, School of Physics, School of Life Science, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Medicine as well as other relevant units, had a broad and in-depth exchange with Mr. Moran on publishing cooperation, specialized lectures, university publicity, personnel recruitment and so forth.
During the visit, Mr. Moran also gave a lecture entitled “How to orientate our science career”, which was well received by students.
