On May 11th, the ceremony for the recruitment of Professor Peter Grünberg, winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics, was held on the Central Campus of Shandong University. Shandong University President Xu Xianming attended the ceremony and signed the agreement with Professor Grünberg.
Hu Wenrong, Vice-Minister of Organization Department of Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and the Director of the Office of Shandong Talent Work Leading Group, also attended the ceremony. Lou Hongxiang, Vice President of SDU hosted the ceremony.

In his address, Xu expressed his warm welcome for Professor Grünberg and gratitude for the support and concern that the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Shandong Provincial People’s Government have given to SDU to build up its team of experts.
"From this day on, Professor Grünberg is a member of Shandong University, which represents a significant milestone in the history of SDU,” Xu said. “Since 2009, there have been three Nobel Prize winners who have become our adjunct professor or honorary professor. We are pleased that another professor is joining our team today.”

Professor Grünberg expressed his pleasure in accepting Shandong University’s appointment and joining Shandong University. He said the cooperation between Shandong University and himself has been profound, for as early as 15 years ago, Dr. Shen Shiyan from School of Physics at Shandong University was one of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellows in his research group and this good cooperative relationship has helped maintain their solid friendship.

Prof.Peter Grünberg visits the Chinese Culture Experience Hall
Prior to the recruitment ceremony, Xu had a discussion with Prof. Grünberg, exchanging ideas on how to enhance academic research in the field of physics at Shandong University.
During his stay, Prof. Grünberg also visited the Chinese Culture Experience Hall and was able to observe the traditional Chinese culture first hand. Later on, he met with the teachers and students from the School of Physics at SDU and gave an academic lecture.

Professor Peter Andreas Grünberg was born on May 18th, 1939. As a German physicist, he studies solid-state physics. In 2007, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics laureate for his discovery with Albert Fert for the discovery of Giant Magnetoresistance.
