On April 19th, Shandong University President Xu Xianming recently met with a delegation of four from Yamaguchi University, headed by its President Takuya Marumoto, in the Run Run Shaw Science Building, central campus.

Xu welcomed the visit of the Yamaguchi University delegation, and expressed his gratitude for Marumoto’s attendance at SDU’s 110th Anniversary Celebrations.

Xu said fruitful results have been achieved in academic exchange and cooperation between the two universities since the agreement of the friendly cooperation between the two sides was signed in 1983.

He noted that Yamaguchi University is one of the universities that represents the higher education in Japan in modern times, and is also one of the earliest universities to have a friendly partnership with SDU. SDU values greatly the relationship with Yamaguchi University.

Xu expressed his hope that the two universities can further the scope of cooperation and enhance the academic exchanges between the teachers and students of both sides.

Marumoto said next year will be the 30-year anniversary of the establishment of the two universities friendly relations. Celebrations will be held in both universities to further and deepen the friendship and academic cooperation between the two universities, and more favorable terms will be offered by Yamaguchi University to attract outstanding students to pursue advanced studies in Japan. It is also planned that, starting from October of this year, the testing center of entrance examinations for postgraduate students will be set up at SDU to facilitate students who apply for going to Japan for further academic studies.

During the meeting, agreements were made to jointly commemorate the exchange and cooperation between the two universities over the last 30 years by establishing a commemoration day and holding exhibitions on their achievement.

Tong Guangwu, the Director of International Office of SDU, Qi Yanping, the Dean of the Law School of SDU, and the representatives of Yamaguchi University’s alumni also attended this meeting.

During the visit, the Yamaguchi University delegation also visited Qilu Hospital of Shandong University.
