On April 19th，Prof.Jürgen Rühe,Vice President of the University of Freiburg of Germany, and his delegation recently visited Shandong University. Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University, and Chen Yan, Vice President of Shandong University, met with the delegation separately.

Xu showed his warm welcome for the visit of Prof. Rühe and his delegation when he met with them, and introduced the past and current situation of Shandong University, in particular about the characteristics of running the school and the situation of the study of Confucianism.

Meanwhile, he also hoped that the two schools could open up cooperation on several levels.

Prof. Rühe gave a detailed introduction about the University of Freiburg and came up with a cooperation mode that included several aspects such as student exchange, teacher exchange and scientific research cooperation.

He hoped that the two universities could open up cooperation on joint student cultivation programs, scientific internship programs and research on Ji Xianlin, etc.

Tong Guangwu, Director of International Office of Shandong University, attended the meeting.

While meeting with the delegation, Chen Yan discussed with the guests about cooperation programs such as student exchange and joint cultivation programs between the two universities.

Established in 1457, University of Freiburg is one of the oldest universities in Germany. The university’s recent success in the “Excellence” competitions, 2007 for research and 2009 for instruction, testifies to its position as one of the leading universities of the 21st century. University of Freiburg has more than 21,000 students who are matriculated in 160 degree programs at 11 faculties. It also has more than 5,000 professors and lecturers and many other employees.
