The opening ceremony of Study China Program 2012 was held recently at Shandong University. 93 students selected from 37 prestigious universities such as University of Oxford, University of Liverpool, University of Cambridge, and Leeds University attended the ceremony and had a 17-day training class at SDU.
During their stay in Shandong University, the students received language training, listened to lectures on Chinese culture and participated in classes on calligraphy, tai chi, Peking Opera.
Besides studying traditional Chinese culture experience programs, students also visited Shandong tourist attractions and well-known enterprises, and went to the homes of locals to experience life in China. In addition, Shandong University student volunteers offered one-on-one help to the students in the program, and were wholly or partly involved in exchange activities with them.
During the opening ceremony, Tong Guangwu, the Dean of International Office of Shandong University, delivered a speech to welcome the arrival of the students, expressing his hope that the students can learn about the Chinese language, Qilu Culture, and make friends here.
Mr. Matthew Maloney, on behalf of University of Manchester, representatives of the SDU School of International Education and Chinese Language teachers, students in the program, and volunteers of Shandong Universities participated in the opening ceremony.
