On August 20, famous American philanthropist Kenneth Eugene Behring, Chairman of the Global Health and Education Foundation (GHEF), and his group paid a visit to Shandong University. Xu Xianming, President of SDU, met with them.

During the Awarding Ceremony to bestow the title of Honorary Professor to Mr. Behring, President Xu Xianming awarded Mr. Behring his certificate and they signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SDU and GHEF. According to the MOU, both sides will cooperate on the construction of a museum in the SDU Qingdao Campus, the translation and publishing of Mr. Behring’s new autobiography and the construction of Energetic Retirement Community. Lou Hongxiang, Vice President of SDU, presided at the ceremony.

President Xu expressed a warm welcome to Mr. Behring and his group’s on theirs second visit and reviewed the progress of both sides’ cooperation. President Xu said that the preliminary planning of the museum in the SDU Qingdao Campus was finished. After the construction, it will be the biggest museum among Chinese universities. He hoped that Mr. Behring could cooperate with SDU to help turn it into a world-class museum. President Xu said it was the first time that SDU awarded a philanthropist and entrepreneur as the title of Honorary Professor. SDU will also translate and publish Mr. Behring’s new autobiography.

Mr. Behring said it was his honor to become SDU’s Honorary Professor and he wished to make more support and contribution to SDU’s development. After the ceremony, Mr. Behring told teachers and students of SDU about how he succeeded in the pioneering days of his corporations and his philanthropic career. He wished to make more contributions to the construction of the museum in the SDU Qingdao Campus and the construction of Energetic Retirement Community. He would like to provide better education opportunities to young people and strengthen their leadership skills.

After the activity, Mr. Behring presented a signed copy of his autobiography to student representatives.

The Director of SDU’s Office, Jing Haiming, Director of SDU’s Department of Development and Planning, Kong Lingdong, Director of SDU’s Personnel Department, Fang hui, Director of SDU’s Department of International Affairs, Zou Nan, Director of SDU’s Department of Cooperation and Development, Wang Fei, Dean of SDU’s School of Nursing, Jia Jihui, and other officials also attended the meeting and other activities.
