SDU Singapore Alumni Association recently celebrated its Alma Mater’s 110th Anniversary in Singapore. Vice-President Fan Liming was present with her group and made a speech. An unprecedented three hundred plus people were in attendance.
Fan Liming, on behalf of Shandong University, expressed her gratitude in her speech. Meanwhile, she introduced systematically Shandong University’s history, academic achievements, and the new educational objective of ranking as one of the top universities in the world, as well as the new educational measures to fulfill this objective. Her introduction received an enthusiastic reception from the audience. Big rounds of applause were given by audience to show their great respect and best wishes for Shandong University, a university in modern Chinese history which has made great contributions to China’s higher education. In the end, Fan gave her best wishes for alumni abroad. She also expressed her hope that the alumni continue to make great contributions to the development of alma mater.
Liu Xiangyang, who is president of Shandong University Singapore Alumni Association and a professor at the National University of Singapore, delivered a speech on behalf of the members of Alumni Association. He recalled with emotion the bits and pieces of student life at their alma mater, and expressed their joy and pride for the alma mater’s rapid development in recent years. Also, he showed gratitude for the alma mater’s support to the Singapore Alumni Association in organizing the celebration. On behalf of the Singapore Alumni Association, Liu Xiangyang presented souvenirs to Fan Liming and expressed the best wishes of overseas alumni for their alma mater’s birthday. Zhou Jianping, Counselor of the Educational Office of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, Sun Jianping, president of Chinese University Alumni Association in Singapore, and representatives of Shanghai Jiaotong University Alumni Association of Singapore delivered speeches during the celebration activity and showed congratulated SDU on its 110th anniversary.
As one of the overseas activities to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Shandong University, Singapore Alumni Association invited the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, Singapore’s local societies, Chinese-funded organizations, overseas Chinese, the Singapore alumni of other domestic brother colleges and overseas alumni of Shandong University.
Among the many activities were a reception, an exhibition introducing and promoting the University, and a party. Through them the overseas alumni extended their congratulations on the 110th anniversary of SDU. SDU Singapore Alumni Association introduced the history and current situation of SDU to the audience through pictures, text data and videos in the exhibition.
In Singapore, Fan visited Confucius Institute, Technological University (CI-NTU) jointly established by Shandong University and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). She had in-depth discussions with the Chairman of the Confucius Institute Chew Cheng Hai and the Director of the Confucius Institute Koh Hock Kiat on the planning and development, follow-up cooperation and other issues of Confucius Institute. She also visited the Shandong Association of Singapore and expressed the wish to promote substantive cooperation with overseas communities and organizations on the basis of mutual benefit. Ning Jiming, the Dean of the College of International Education and the representatives from the International Office and the Department of Cooperation of SDU also joined the visit.
