Wu Chuansong, a professor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Shandong University, won the International Meritorious Certificate Award issued by the American Welding Society, or AWS, on Sept 14.

This was reportedly the first time that a Chinese welding expert had won the award and Wu was one of two winners of the award this year.

The award was established to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the AWS, the International Institute of Welding and the worldwide welding industry through their dedicated services to research, education and professional societies and editorships in prominent journals.

The AWS staged the 2021 national awards ceremony both online and offline.
