The School of Qilu Transportation, Shandong University (SDU) recently won a provincial-level gold medal in the industrial track of the Seventh China College Students' Internet Plus Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
Undergraduates and graduates formed an interdisciplinary team involving sectors like engineering materials, tunnel engineering, equipment development, as well as software system development.
The team competed at the competition with a fast and continuous diagnosis system for structural problems and internal defects in subway tunnel structures.
Since most tunnels in China have been used for a long time, current tunnel detection methods are facing difficulties of large tunnel detection mileage, high detection frequency, and high detection demand.
The School of Qilu Transportation invented the diagnosis system to deal with current tunnel detection difficulties. The system has made breakthroughs in eight key technologies, with 11 invention patents and 12 software copyrights authorized.
Through the competition, the School of Qilu Transportation has explored new ways to cultivate talents for innovation and entrepreneurship. It has formed a platform to integrate education and industry in order to boost students' innovation and entrepreneurship spirit, as well as to contribute to the safe operation of subway tunnels.
