The 19.98-kilometer-long left line of Yuelongmen tunnel on Chengdu-Lanzhou Railway was successfully bored through on Nov 28th.
Li Shucai, academician from Shandong University, together with his team contributed to the project by adopting key technologies.
Li led the team to carry out research on the complex engineering geological conditions of the tunnel, and develop special equipment for tunnel water exploration, a new warning system for tunnel water in rush, as well as special grouting materials and techniques.
Li and his team also dealt with difficulties such as preventing a sudden surge of water in the tunnel.
The team has published over 30 academic papers on basis of the research achievements of Yuelongmen tunnel project, obtained more than 20 national patents, and won 7 provincial level or enterprise-level engineering methods.
The 457.6 km long Chengdu-Lanzhou Railway is located in Sichuan and Gansu provinces with an altitude of over 3,000 meters. The tunnel project has extremely complicated topographical and geological conditions as it has to pass through many fault zones such as the Longmenshan fault zone.
