Chen Zengjing, professor of the School of Mathematics at Shandong University (SDU) was appointed as the president of the East Asian and Pacific Regional Committee of the Bernoulli Society for the 2022 to 2023 term.
Established in 1975, the Bernoulli Society is an international institute for mathematical statistics and probability. It consists of over 1,000 members.
The society aims to advance the development and application of probability theory (including stochastic processes) and mathematical statistics.
The society organizes and sponsors global and regional conferences as well as several high-level scientific publications.
Professor Chen Zengjing, dean of the School of Mathematics, mainly researches financial mathematics, backward stochastic differential equations, and econometrics.
His scientific achievements were published in top international economic journals, such as Econmetrica and Annals of probability. He collaborated with Larry Epstein, an American academician of Arts and Sciences and a well-known economist, in writing a paper on the Econmetrica, which was the first one published by a scholar from the Chinese mainland. They have obtained an asset pricing formula known as Chen-Epstein.
The Chen-Epstein asset pricing formula has been cited and popularized byinternationally renowned experts such as Thomas J.Sargent and Lars Peter Hansen Hansen, winners of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.
Chen also received the 14th Award of Sun Yefang Economic Science and the second-place prize at the 2015 National Natural Science.
