Shandong University (SDU) held the Technology Innovation Conference at the Central Campus on Jan 11, aiming to build a first-class system for scientific and technological innovation and cultivate a national strategic sci-tech force.

The Association for Science and Technology of SDU was unveiled at the conference. SDU's president Fan Liming presented the letter of appointment to academician Li Shucai, the first chairman of the association.

Fan praised SDU's major sci-tech achievements in 2021, and made detailed plans for the university's sci-tech innovation work in the next five years.

SDU will further bolster its efforts to boost interdisciplinary integration to meet the need of national strategies, promote the commercialization of high-quality sci-tech innovation achievements, and improve SDU's ability in sci-tech innovation, Fan said.

Pan Jun, deputy director of Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province, gave a report on the provincial science and technology innovation plan during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, mainly focusing on breakthroughs in core technologies, strengthening requirement-oriented frontier basic research, and establishing sci-tech innovation center with significant influence in the country.

Other attendees, such as Zhu Xinyuan, vice-president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Tai Zhongzhi, vice-president of Sun Yat-sen University, also gave presentations at the conference.

In addition, the first award ceremony for the top 10 high-value applied science and technology achievements of SDU was held at the conference.
