The signing and launching ceremony of the Neutron Medical Center of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University (SDU) was held at Qilu Hospital (Qingdao) on Jan 19.

The center aims to gather collaborators for the research and development of neutron medical technology equipment and clinical applications in order to achieve clinical applications of neutron medical technology.

Wu Yican, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), said that FDS (Frontier Development of Science) Group – a group led by academicians from CAS and internationally renowned academicians – will cooperate with SDU to build the neutron medical center, carry out clinical applications, and promote the R&D of high-end medical equipment, new drugs, innovative diagnoses and treatments.

Chen Yuguo, director of Qilu Hospital of SDU, said that the hospital will further strengthen interdisciplinary integration and medical technology innovation, carry out neutron therapy-related clinical trials, and promote the coordinated innovation of medicine, research and companies.

Chen also said that the hospital will strive to build the Neutron Medical Center into an integrated comprehensive research institution focusing on tumor medicine, neutron medical extension applications, the R&D of high-end medical equipment, talent cultivation, and international exchanges.
