Shandong University (SDU) was approved to add two interdisciplinary majors, which are intelligent construction and intelligent transportation, and biomedical data science, according to the result of undergraduate majors for 2021 that was released by the Ministry of Education recently.

SDU is the first university nationwide to set up the intelligent construction and intelligent transportation major, which is a newly approved undergraduate major.

Led by academician Li Shucai, and distinguished professor Zhang Qingsong, the intelligent construction and intelligent transportation major will integrate mathematics, software engineering, control science and engineering, mechanical engineering, and traffic civil engineering to cultivate applied research talents with global prospectives, innovation abilities, and crossover development abilities.

The biomedical data science major will involve various sectors such as mathematics, software engineering, and medical data science to cultivate special talents with foundations in medical, science, and engineering, as well as in medical data science, in order to meet the needs of the national strategy to develop the health big data industry.

In recent years, SDU has been beefing up its efforts to boost the development of undergraduate majors as they are the key to train undergraduate talents and to build a world-class university. The university has released plans to optimize the structure of its majors, improve their quality, and innovate methods to cultivate undergraduate talents.

In 2022, SDU plans to focus on the modernization of majors and the innovation of talent cultivation, the development of first-class courses and textbooks and the reform of classroom teaching to develop a first-class undergraduate talent cultivation system.
