According to a report by local media on March 10, Shandong University's School of Basic Medical Sciences recently established a new department — systems biomedicine.
The department incorporates interdisciplinary disciplines such as biology, medicine, informatics, materials science, and control engineering to focus on cutting-edge research.
Systems Biomedicine is a basic medical discipline that focuses on researching all levels of biological systemsranging from molecules, cells, organs to humans groupsby using biological systems theory, computational, and transgenic systems biotechnology.
To contribute to the development of individual precision medicine, the department will study illness occurrence and processes depending on clinical demands.
Undergraduate and graduate students will be able to pursue courses offered by the department. Systems biology, bioinformatics, stem cell and tissue engineering will be among the topics covered.
In addition, the department will ask specialists from SDU and other schools and institutions to help create the courses and disciplines in order to ensure their quality.
