The Award Ceremony for the 17th China Youth Science and Technology Award took place on Nov 12 at the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Young Scientist Summit, and Professors Liu Bin and Xu Feng from Shandong University received awards during the event.
Liu is a professor at the Geotechnical and Structural Engineering Research Center and Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Civil Engineering. He is also the part-time deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, the vice-chairman of the Geophysical Society of Shandong Province and the deputy editor of the Journal of Applied Geophysics.
He is mainly engaged in the research and development of advanced forecasting of tunnels and underground engineering, and his research results have been successfully applied in the water supply project in Jilin province.
Liu has published 62 SCI and EI papers as the first or corresponding author, and has 108 authorized Chinese invention patents and eight international patents. He has participated in the compilation of four national standards and two group standards.
Liu has also won the Technical Innovation of the 2020 ITA Tunnelling Awards, the 2020 National Science and Technology Progress Award and the 23rd China Patent Gold Award.
He has received funding from the 2019 National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientist and the 2021 Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scientist of Shandong Province.
Xu's titles include Chief Physician, PhD Supervisor, Vice-President of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, Deputy Dean of the First Clinical College, National-level Talent, Chief Expert of the National Major Scientific Research Project, and Excellent Physician of Shandong Province.
His research focuses on acute and critical cardiovascular disease and cardiac arrest. For more than 10 years, he has been focusing on the clinical and scientific research work of individualized prevention and treatment of acute and critical cardiovascular diseases.
Xu has published papers in the European Heart Journal, Nature Communications, JAMA Cardiology and other journals as the first or corresponding author, some of which have been cited by Nature and other authoritative journals, and reviewed by authoritative experts from Harvard University and Stanford University. Among his papers, one was selected as an ESI Highly Cited Paper and one was rated as one of the Top 10 Medical Research (News) in China.
He also won the first prize at the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award and has been invited to give special reports at first-class academic conferences at home and abroad, write reviews for authoritative journals, and participate in the compilation of three national textbooks.
The China Youth Science and Technology Award was established in 1987 under the proposal of Qian Xuesen and other scientists, aiming to encourage young talents to stand out, and recognize and reward young scientific and technological talents who have made outstanding achievements in national economic development, social progress and scientific and technological innovation.
The award ceremony is held every two years, and no more than 100 people are awared for each time. Over the past 30 years, about 1,500 young scientists have received the award.
