The 17th National Synthetic Organic Chemistry Symposium was held by the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) and Shandong University (SDU) from Nov 10 to 13 in Jinan, Shandong province.
Themed on organic synthesis and drug creation, the symposium featured sub-forums on topics such as asymmetric catalysis, total synthesis and medicinal chemistry, metal catalysis, free radical chemistry, and special sessions for female scientists. The "Excellent Oral Report Award" and "Excellent Academic Poster Award" were set up to provide a platform for in-depth exchanges among chemists.
Li Shucai, president of SDU, said the symposium will have a positive influence on the future development of organic chemistry and the chemical research field.
Li also said SDU will take this symposium as an opportunity to expand and deepen collaboration and innovation in order to improve the quality of its education.
The symposium focused on the latest research results in the fields of organic synthesis and drug creation. Attendees discussed the opportunities, challenges and development directions of related disciplines.
During the report and sub-forum sessions, which were held from Nov 11 to 13, members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), professors and scholars from renowned universities such as Fudan University, Peking University, and University of Science and Technology of China gave presentations on cutting-edge topics such as organic synthesis and drug creation.
Ma Dawei, a member of CAS and director of the symposium, said that in the future, chemists should further strengthen interdisciplinary integration, enhance exchanges and cooperation, regard serving the needs of the nation as their own responsibility, broaden their horizons, and innovate thinking to contribute to the realization of national scientific and technological progress.
