Shandong University (SDU) and Shandong subsidiary of state-owned energy company China Huaneng Group have forged a strategic partnership to boost their all-round and pragmatic cooperation.

A ceremony was held on Jan 28 for the signing of a framework agreement on establishing the strategic partnership between the two sides. According to the agreement, the two sides will carry out all-around and in-depth cooperation in talent cultivation and integration of production and education, scientific and technological cooperation and achievement transformation, management consultation and brand building.

Li Shucai, president of Shandong University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wang Xu, chairman of Huaneng's Shandong subsidiary, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. They jointly unveiled the Shandong University-Huaneng Joint Research Institute of Carbon Neutrality Technological Innovation.

Li said that the signing of the framework agreement on strategic partnership will help the university and the enterprise to jointly leverage their resource advantages, more effectively promote the construction of world-class disciplines in Shandong University to build it into a first-rate university, and stimulate the innovative development of Huaneng.

Going forward, Li said, the two sides should further deepen comprehensive, close and pragmatic cooperation, build a clean energy innovation highland, industrial highland and talent highland, better promote the deep integration of innovation, industrial and talent chains, make new contributions to building a beautiful China and a beautiful Shandong, and accelerate the realization of carbon peaking and neutrality goals.

Addressing the ceremony, Wang said that Huaneng Group strives to implement the carbon peaking and neutrality strategy and the new energy security strategy, accelerate the construction of a new power system with new energy as the pillar, and demonstrate the role of state-owned enterprises in the process of technological self-reliance.
