Minister of Education, Huai Jinpeng, visited Shandong province on Feb 3 to inspect the preparations for the spring semester and the development of education in the province.

During his two-day visit, Huai discussed issues with Lin Wu, Party secretary of Shandong. Zhou Naixiang, governor of Shandong, Bai Yugang, head of the Shandong provincial department of publicity, Zhang Haibo, secretary-general and member of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and Deng Yunfeng, deputy governor of Shandong, and participated in a series of activities.
On Feb 3, Huai held a meeting with Guo Xinli, Party secretary of Shandong University (SDU), and Li Shucai, president of Shandong University as well as other representatives from the university.
The minister said that this year is crucial for the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025. Education institutions should take health and safety as a top priority, construct Double First-Class universities and cultivate a large number of top-notch innovative talents. He added that universities should also serve regional economic and social development and boost coordinated integration of vocational education, higher education and continuing education.
During the meeting, Guo delivered a work report on serving national strategies, deepening reform and innovation, implementing the national security plan and strengthening Party building.
Huai and his team also visited the Shandong University Hospital and health stations on Feb 4 to learn about planning for the return of teachers and students including COVID-19 prevention and control measures. He investigated the big data empowerment platform to inspect the backgrounds of construction, services and achievements.
