The appointment ceremony of Thijs van Kolfschoten as part-time chair professor of Shandong University(SDU) was held at the school's Qingdao campus on April 12.
At the ceremony, Xing Zhanjun, assistant to the principal and secretary of the Party working committee at SDU's Qingdao campus, gave an introduction onthe construction and development of SDU's archaeological discipline, as well as an overview of the Qingdao campus.
He expressed his gratitude to Professor Kolfschoten for his contribution to the cooperation and exchanges between SDU and Leiden University in the Netherlands.He also expressed hope that Kolfschoten will continue to play a vital role in leading SDU's discipline construction and enhancing its international cooperation.
Kolfschoten said it is a great honor to be hired as a part-time chair professor of SDU. He also expressed hopes to jointly promote the international development of archaeology relying on the school's first-class advanced archaeological laboratory.
Fang Hui, dean of the School of History and Culture at SDU, presented a letter of appointment to Kolfschoten. The ceremony was presided over by Chen Xuexiang, vice-president of the Institute of Cultural Heritage at SDU.
After the appointment ceremony, Kolfschoten held talks with teachers from the Institute of Cultural Heritage and discussed issues such as promoting CSC innovation projects, launching exchange programs for teachers and students, as well as encouraging young teachers to participate in international scientific research activities.
Kolfschoten is a professor emeritus of Leiden University, chairman of INQUA, the representative body for Quaternary science worldwide, as well as a famous mammal paleo specialist in ecology, paleoecology and Quaternary biostratigraphy.
