To celebrate the World Book and Copyright Day, which falls on April 23 this year, Shandong University (SDU) held the final round of The Analects of Confucius reading session on April 8, which was a significant event during the first session of theYouths' Insights into Classical Books activity.
Launched in March and sponsored by SDU's information department and the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies, the event attracted 48 submissions from 10 colleges and shortlisted 17 final candidates.
During the event, contestants elaborated onThe Analects of Confucius through vivid approaches such as scene interpretations, songs, simulated broadcasts and narrations from multiple perspectives and pioneering spirits. They also shared their views on the book and made new friends.
Professors Huang Yushun and Zhou Jiwen from the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies, Li Yangmei, deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy, experts and student representatives served as judges. Zhang Tangning, Yao Kaiwen and Yan Peisen from the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies won the first prize; Zhang Mengyao's team, Li Jiajie and Li Zhiyao received the second prize. Third-place prizes were granted to groups led by Liu Zhe, Li Xiuzhong, Dang Jiayi, Tong Jinyi and Ding Shizheng.
SDU plans to hold more reading sessions on classics such as The Book of Songs,Records of the Grand Historianand books written by philosophers Mencius, Laozi and Zhuangzi, to enrich the minds of the youths, promote the inheritance and innovation of traditional cultures and enhance cultural strength of the Chinese nation.
