Interior Design of China Railways 25T Sleeping Car, a work designed by Xie Xiaofeng's team from the industrial design department of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Shandong University (SDU), won the Silver Award at the 2023 German iF Design Award competition.

This year's competition received 10,544 entries from 56 countries. Xie's award-winning work integrates design aesthetics, innovative technologies,and intelligent applications,aimingto meetthedifferentiated needs of users.

The overall design is inspired by the shape of shale in nature, incorporating modularization of hard layers and a layout featuring interspersed changes between shape and space. It highlights the protection of privacy in public spaces,as well ascreates a harmonious relationship between the public and private life of individuals.

The German iF Design Award is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious awards in the design industry,along with the German Red Dot Award, the United States' International Design Excellence Awards, and the Japanese Good Design Award. These four awards are often referred to as the "four major design awards in the world".

Established in Germany in 1953 and boastinga history of 70 years,theiF Design Award has become a benchmark for the global design industry, showcasing outstanding design and quality of the award-winning works,as well asgaining consumers' trust. The award is famous for its independent, rigorous,and reliable evaluation concept.

Xie's team also won the 2022 International Design Excellence Awards last year. In recent years, witha focus on exploring innovative conceptsin industrial design, the School of Mechanical Engineering at Shandong University has been conducteing in-depth research,as well asencouraging its teachers to explore new models and mechanisms for industry, academia, and research. This approach has led to significant advancements in the field of industry, academia,and research innovation,allowingtechnology to empower design with great vitality.
