Recently, Shandong University's (SDU) Weihai campus held a series of themed activities to strengthen cultural confidence and carry forward the spirit of traditional Chinese culture.
Consisting of a garden party, cultural performances and a campus tour, the 10-day event attracted more than 2,000 teachers and students
The fair-style garden party featuring calligraphy, poetry recitals, opera facial makeup and intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items was held at the Xinyuan basketball court from April 15 to 16, creating immersive experiences for a large number of students.
A total of 14 booths were set up, displaying such cultural items as the Chinese chess competition, paper-cutting, traditional Chinese paintings and lantern riddles. Cultural workers and inheritors gave presentations on many ICH items such as the art of pure copper, tin inlay and azure stones to onsite participants. These handcrafting activities allowed students to learn more about ICH items.
An array of cultural performances and shows were held on April 16, including the festive and lively folk music ensemble Xiyangyang, the musical instrument ensemble Qinghuaci, a folk dance, the classical dance Jasmine, martial arts, cross-talk dramas and exhibitions on traditional clothing.
On April 22, 40 students toured the campus in hanfu, a type of traditional clothing developed by the Han ethnic group in China, which aroused everyone's interest in traditional Chinese culture and promoted the popularization of Chinese clothing on campus.
