On June 10, Shandong University's Nino Drama Club captivated nearly 300 spectators with its annual production, Family Portrait, held at Mengdi Concert Hall in Baotuquan Campus. The play's emotive narrative and engaging performances deeply moved the audience, earning resounding applause throughout.
Family Portrait, an adaptation of Ye Guangling's novel, chronicles the ebbs and flows of Beijing's traditional architectural industry through the lives of several families and a symbolically carved screen. The narrative deftly captures societal transformation in China and the universal joys and sorrows experienced by ordinary people.
The Nino Drama Club masterfully brought these characters to life, employing vivid language, humor, and a deep understanding of their roles to create a richly atmospheric stage presence. Evoking images of a bygone era, the play struck an emotional chord with the audience. Many teachers and students praised the club's endeavors and hoped it would extend its tour to other campuses and public venues.
Over 30 dedicated cast and crew members invested nearly two months in preparing the production under the guidance of Qi Huibo, who is a popular director in Jinan, with responsibilities ranging from casting to prop creation. In recognition of his invaluable contribution, the School of Foreign Languages presented Qi with an appointment letter for the aesthetic education instructor position.
