In a bid to enhance joint educational and research endeavors, a delegation from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU) visited Shandong University (SDU) in China on July 3.
The delegation, spearheaded by NTU Vice Presidents Lan Qinyang, Weng Zhihao, and Peng Shujie, was warmly received by SDU President Li Shucai and Vice President Han Shenghao.
During the assembly, Li offered an insightful presentation on SDU's rich history, distinguished faculty, and academic advancement. He also underscored the university’s success resulting from collaborations with institutions in various fields, such as international Chinese education and artificial intelligence (AI).
Li expressed his desire to broaden the scope of cooperation between the universities, thus enhancing comprehensive collaboration across the board - from arts and sciences to medicine and engineering.
He also stressed SDU's proactive efforts to cultivate partnerships with NTU and the Jinan city government, focusing on areas like talent development, innovative scientific research, and commercialization of academic findings. These efforts aim to set new benchmarks in collaboration between academic institutions and local governments, thereby nourishing local development and fostering Sino-Singaporean exchanges.
Lan recognized the accomplishments of the International Joint Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence, a joint venture between the universities. He also shared NTU's experiences in fostering industry-academia-research collaboration.
Moreover, Lan anticipates deepening relations with SDU and Jinan city, which will collectively foster new industry-academic-research-government collaboration platforms that have an emphasis on talent recruitment, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Peng and Weng expressed their desire to leverage each university's strengths and extend the partnership into the humanities and social sciences. They are also keen to explore new avenues in sustainable development and medical health, so as to take their collaboration to the next level.
