The Ministry of Education recently announced the winners of the 2022 National Teaching Achievement Awards in higher education.
Shandong University won 12 awards, placing it sixth nationwide in terms of the number of awards in higher education (undergraduate level). Among these accolades were two first prizes and 10 second prizes.
The National Teaching Achievement Awards are prestigious national-level recognition designated by the State Council. The awards, which are held every four years, represent the highest level of higher educational teaching in China.
In recent years, Shandong University has established a series of education reform projects that are adapted to the changing needs of higher education development and focus on the practical issues of university’s education and teaching. These projects revolve around cultivating outstanding and innovative talents, serving the nation's and regional economic and social development, and optimizing institutional structures.
The university has been constantly improving its independent training system for high-quality talents and developing new engineering disciplines that are aligned with the needs of national strategies and critical industrial development.
The university has also established 17 "national strategic urgently-needed majors", among which are two interdisciplinary programs "Intelligent Construction and Smart Transportation" and "Biomedical Data Science".
A replicable and promotable "1265" new liberal arts education system has been established and the training of top talents in basic disciplines has achieved remarkable results.
The university also created a smart education environment embracing smart teaching management and service systems. Since 2014, a total of 481 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have been offered on various mainstream platforms, attracting nearly tens of millions of learners.
Shandong University will continue to strengthen the improvement, application, and promotion of the awarded achievements and contribute its wisdom to the exploration of a distinctive Chinese model for the development of higher education.
