The first Conference on Digital and Intelligent Geological Identification and Disaster Prevention and Control of Tunnels was held in Nanyang, Henan province, from August 11 to 13.
Shandong University was one of the organizers of the event. Li Shucai, president of Shandong University, delivered a keynote speech during the conference.
The conference aimed to provide a platform for interaction and cooperation among government, enterprises, universities and talents, promote interdisciplinary integration of civil engineering, transportation, computers and information, and contribute to China's tunnel and underground engineering construction, Li said.

To promote the rapid development of digital and intelligent tunnel construction, the conference facilitates the discussion of relevant topics such as digital tunnel geological identification, disaster prevention and control, operation and maintenance management, said Gao Tuo, chief engineer of Henan Provincial Department of Science and Technology.
Zhou Huafeng, the vice-mayor of Nanyang City, underscores the key role of technological innovation in high-quality development of transport industry.
At the conference, 45 experts and scholars from the industry and academia in China made presentations on 10 topics related to tunneling and underground engineering, and highlighted the latest technologies and advancements in the field.
