Shandong University and Shandong Energy Group unveiled their joint establishment, the Future Technology College and the Industrial Research Institute, at the university's central campus on Oct 10.
The two sides also signed a cooperation framework agreement with the Jinan government to promote the construction of national key laboratories and major scientific and technological infrastructure.
The two new institutes, which will focus on the fields of intelligent mining, underground energy storage, deep earth exploration, intelligent materials, and intelligent instruments, are set to play an important role in serving the national strategy and boosting the development of the energy industry in Shandong.
At the unveiling ceremony, Shandong University President Li Shucai said that the founding of the two institutes will accelerate the integrated development of education, science, and talent.
The university will leverage its disciplinary strengths and talent aggregation advantages to further innovate the training of technology talents, facilitate collaborations with the government, industry, academy, and research entities, and serve Shandong's economic and social development, he added.
Li Wei, president of Shandong Energy Group, said the two institutions will play a major role in promoting the integration of industry, academy, research, and practical applications.
The group will also deepen cooperation with the Jinan government and Shandong University to make innovative breakthroughs in major project development, high-level talent cultivation, as well as science and technology cooperation and exchange.
As an engineering innovation demonstration college, the Future Technology College aims to become a highland for world-class future technology education.
Meanwhile, the Industrial Research Institute will focus on Shandong's energy transition and address the nation's demand for cutting-edge energy technology. It will facilitate the integration of scientific research and industrial endeavors, as well as foster technological breakthroughs and academic innovation. This institute will serve as a wellspring for original technology and a high-tech business incubator, and contribute to the transformation and advancement of traditional industries.
