Shandong University hosted the eighth Qilu Youth Forum on Oct 25, bringing together over 200 young scholars from more than 20 countries to collaborate in academics.
Shandong University President Li Shucai delivered a keynote speech at the event. "The education, science and technology, and human resources offer basic and strategic support for building a modern socialist country in all respects", he said, emphasizing the important role the young generation will play in promoting the high-quality development of the country.
Shandong University, known for its comprehensive disciplines and distinguished scholars, has made significant contributions to the nation's development. Li outlined the university's commitment to a more inclusive and dynamic talent policy, coupled with enhanced services, including healthcare and education, to create a diverse pathway for the development of young talent.
Li Shucai invited young scholars from around the world to join Shandong University. The university will provide various talent programs, excellent facilities, and support to help young talents grow and excel. It will also ensure quality services in areas like healthcare and education to create a more favorable environment for their success. This will contribute to China's goal of becoming a global talent hub and innovation center.
In recent years, Shandong University has surged into the global top 200 rankings owing to its achievements across various disciplines, including a leading number of "Future Science Prize" recipients and substantial breakthroughs in national research.
The forum was held through a combination of on-site and online live streams. The main forum featured video sub-sessions at different campuses in Jinan, Qingdao, and Weihai. More than 13,000 people attended online. In addition to the main forum, there were 46 sub-forums covering various fields, such as humanities, social sciences, basic sciences, engineering sciences, information sciences, and medicine.
As an important flagship event for talent attraction of Shandong University, the Qilu Youth Forum was held seven times from 2016 to 2022, with over 100 young talents joining Shandong University through the forum.
