Shandong University hosted its first hiking campaign on Mount Tai, a renowned attraction in Tai'an city, Shandong province on Oct 21. The event attracted more than 100 participants including students, teachers and hiking enthusiasts from the university.
The entire trip took eight hours. Participants hiked 16 kilometers and climbed the mountains with the altitude of over 1,300 meters after passing by the Eastern Heavenly Gate, the Middle Heavenly Gate , the Southern Heavenly Gate and the Jade Emperor Peak.
Li Shucai, president of Shandong University, said at the opening ceremony that the event aimed to inspire students to overcome challenges through persistence and determination, and to become outstanding individuals who dare to take on responsibilities and bear hardships.
Shandong University will remain committed to its core mission of nurturing ethical development, offer platforms and opportunities for students to develop themselves into capable individuals, and endeavor to foster more individuals capable of shouldering the significant responsibilities of national revitalization, Li added.
Wang Yanting, a freshman majoring in clinical medicine at the School of Basic Medical Science, said that the Mount Tai excursion allowed her to experience the innovative spirit of breaking new ground in the new era.
