SDU, Ukrainian E. O. Paton Electric Welding institute to Establish Joint Laboratory for Underwater Welding
Shandong University Vice-President Wu Zhen met with a delegation from Ukraine led by Sergii Maksymov, deputy director of the E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, on Jan 16.
The two sides signed a letter of intent to build an international joint laboratory for underwater welding with the support of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shandong University and E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute.
According to the letter, the two sides will deepen scientific research cooperation in the field of underwater welding, regularly organize academic seminars, and facilitate faculty and student exchanges.
During the meeting, Wu introduced the recent development Shandong University has undergone and said he hoped that both sides will enhance mutual understanding and deepen collaboration in the field of materials science to benefit more students, scholars, and administrators.
Maksymov reviewed the cooperation between the two sides in recent years. He said that the establishment of the lab will further deepen the ties.
The E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, founded in 1934, is a high-level comprehensive applied technology research institute affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The institute has made great achievements in the areas of space welding, underwater welding, titanium alloy welding, electron beam welding, and skin welding.
The School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shandong University has been cooperating with the E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute for over a decade, jointly undertaking many key projects at both national and provincial levels.
