A group of 67 teachers and students from the Middle School Affiliated to Shandong University were stranded at Changsha South Railway Station on Feb 4 due to heavy snow and freezing rain.
The group from the school's Yuanshan Literature Society had just finished its educational excursion in Changsha and was on its way back to Jinan, the capital of Shandong province.
When arriving at the Changsha South Railway Station around 11am, they were informed that their high-speed train was indefinitely delayed. The teachers initiated their emergency plan, providing each student with sufficient necessities, ensuring their safety, and keeping them warm and calm.
The students showed strong patience and discipline. Some completed their study writing tasks, while others read books and newspapers. Additionally, a traditional Chinese poetry game was organized, adding some excitement to the situation.
After nearly 11 hours, they were finally told their train would be departing. The teachers and students packed their belongings, and lined up to board the train.
The group safely arrived in Jinan at around 9 am on Feb 5. The teachers said that it was an unforgettable experience for the students. The educational trip to Hunan during the Spring Festival travel rush not only taught them a lot about literature, but also how to overcome life's unexpected obstacles with a calm mind.
