The 2024 Shandong University Mathematics Cultural Festival kicked off at the university's central campus on March 14, with more than 1,000 teachers and students participating.
The event, hosted by the School of Mathematics at Shandong University, marks International Day of Mathematics, also known as Pi Day, which occurs on March 14.
This year's festival was titled "Appreciating its Beauty and Savoring the Diversity of Mathematics" and hosted more than 20 activities at the university’s campuses in Jinan, Weihai and Qingdao.
Chinese puzzle games and a math-themed cultural exhibition were held during the opening ceremony, where students had the chance to learn about math and improve their mathematical thinking.
Wang Guanghui, Party secretary of the School of Mathematics at Shandong University, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony, highlighting the recent achievements that the School of Mathematics has made in improving its courses and degree programs.
He also urged students to continue the spirit of mathematicians, dedicate themselves to research, pursue truth and pragmatism, and aspire to become mathematicians committed to moving the field forward.
