Shandong University hosted its first student cooking competition at the central campus on May 17, with 32 students participating.
The activity is an example of labor education done right, said Zheng Roucheng, deputy secretary of the Youth League Committee of Shandong University.
The participants were divided into eight groups and required to cook six types of dishes featuring eight different cuisines.
Everyone was fully focused, collaborating and dividing tasks. Each group, themed around one of the eight major Chinese cuisines—Shandong, Sichuan, Cantonese, Hunan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Fujian—created six exquisite main and side dishes.
A panel of 20 student representatives judged the dishes based on taste, presentation, and color coordination. Ultimately, they selected one group as the "Student Master Chef" and awarded three groups with the "Best Dish Creativity Award," "Most Popular Dish Award," and "Best Teamwork Award", respectively.
