Shandong University hosted a symposium on building a modern civilization of Chinese nation as well as the university's related research achievements on May 31.

Wei Changmin, vice-director of the Publicity Department of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, said at the conference that Shandong has been playing a significant role in helping the preservation of traditional Chinese culture and promoting the development of the modern civilization of Chinese nation.

Shandong University has made strong efforts to promote the development of the modern civilization of Chinese nation by making full use of its academic advantages, said Cao Xianqiang, vice-president of Shandong University.

The symposium summarized the achievements made by Shandong University in the study of the modern civilization of Chinese nation.

At the symposium, experts and scholars shared views on the recent progress and achievements of Shandong University in the humanities and social sciences, particularly in enriching the study of Chinese civilization and serving the construction of a modern civilization of Chinese nation.

Professor Yang Chaoming from the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies said he believes that Chinese culture and spirit are a reflection of the depth of Chinese civilization. He emphasizes that the construction of the modern civilization of the Chinese nation requires cultural confidence, liberated thinking, upholding integrity, and innovation.
