The 18th International Conference on Geometric Modeling and Processing took place in Qingdao, Shandong province from June 5 to 8.
The conference was organized by the Asiagraphics, a professional organization of the Asian research community in computer graphics and interactive technology, and co-hosted by Shandong University, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, and Shandong University of Finance and Economics.
Hu Shimin, president of Asiagraphics, said that the conference would continue to provide high-quality service to scholars from around the world, international academic exchanges and beneficial collaborations.
Li Shengying, vice-president of Shandong University's Qingdao Campus, introduced the university's rich academic history and highlighted geometric modeling and processing as pivotal technologies in next-generation information technology for intelligent manufacturing.
Li also emphasized Shandong University's strong research capabilities and significant achievements in this field. He expressed aspirations for deeper collaboration with leading global universities and research institutions to drive advancements in geometric modeling and processing.
The conference, initiated in 2000, has become one of the most influential geometric computing conferences in the world.
This year’s conference focused on intelligent geometric modeling and processing and was attended by 280 scholars and experts from 12 countries, including the United States, Canada, and Germany.
Ten renowned scholars from prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University, University College London, University of Toronto, and the University of Tokyo delivered keynote speeches and shared their insights.
Professor Xin Li from Texas A&M University discussed the applications of generative artificial intelligence and diffusion models in three-dimensional geometric modeling tools. Professor Takeo Igarashi from the University of Tokyo presented his research on generating virtual clothing in the digital world and assisting in clothing design in the real world. Professor Denis Zorin from New York University provided a detailed discussion on the technical challenges and solutions related to parameterization of complex 3D geometric models.
