A delegation led by Shandong University President Li Shucai visited universities, institutions and international organizations in Italy, Switzerland, and France from June 9 to 18, to enhance cooperation in academic exchange, scientific research, talent development, and cultural exchange.
On June 10, Li and his team visited the University of Naples Federico II in Italy to commemorate its 800th anniversary. They signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with Professor Matteo Lorito, the university's president, and engaged in discussions to deepen collaboration in microbiology, optoelectronic information, physics, biology, and management studies. The institutions agreed to establish a strategic partnership involving student exchanges, joint research projects, and cultural initiatives.
On June 11, the delegation met with Wang Binying, deputy director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), along with Chen Hongbing, director of the Trademark Registration at WIPO Madrid. Li presented Shandong University's achievements in technology transfer and discussed potential collaborations in talent cultivation, academic exchanges, intellectual property policies, and applications. Topics such as summer schools, joint master's programs, remote course development, international trademark registration, and technology transfer arbitration were also explored.
The visit on June 13 to Grenoble Alpes University in France included a tour of the 3SR Laboratory, focusing on soft-hard infrastructure and discussions with Vincent Richefeu, head of the university's geomechanics team. Li said that Shandong University will enhance cooperation with the 3SR Laboratory in talent development, high-level scientific research, and student-faculty exchanges.
On June 14, the delegation visited the French National Low-Noise Underground Research Laboratory and talked with Professor Gilles Micolau, the director of the laboratory. The two sides will collaborate through regular academic exchanges in underground laboratory construction, low-noise background geophysical field observations, and scientific experiment collaborations.
The delegation also visited the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) team and the A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS (ATLAS) collaboration team at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the National Library of France, and the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva. They also met with Shandong University students and alumni in Italy, Switzerland, and France, updating them on the university's latest developments and encouraging them to promote the development of Shandong University.
