The 2024 graduation ceremony for Shandong University undergraduate students was held at the university's central campus on June 23, with 4,515 undergraduates from the Jinan campus participating.

Ren Youqun, Party secretary of Shandong University, attended the ceremony and presented certificates to representatives of the outstanding graduates of the 2024 class.

Li Shucai, president of Shandong University attended the ceremony and gave a speech in which he reflected on the unforgettable experiences the students had during their time at the university.

Li expressed three hopes for the graduates. Firstly, he emphasized the importance of cultivating a deep sense of patriotism and the courage to shoulder responsibilities. Secondly, he encouraged students to embrace a spirit of innovation and exploration, urging them to become pioneers in their fields. Thirdly, he urged students to develop a strong and resilient character, emphasizing the importance of moving forward with determination.

Reflecting on the experiences of Shandong University students who strengthened both their physical endurance and mental fortitude through activities such as cycling the Yunnan-Tibet route and mountaineering, Li highlighted their journey as a testament to the values of perseverance and resilience.

He also drew inspiration from the achievements of Xu Qikun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an alumnus of Shandong University renowned for his discovery and empirical proof of the quantum anomalous Hall effect. Li used Xu's example to encourage students to cultivate endurance, resilience, and perseverance in their own pursuits.

Professor Wang Guanghui from the School of Mathematics at Shandong University encouraged students to define their life's path with a sense of patriotism, to overcome obstacles through resilience, and to explore life's infinite possibilities with wisdom and creativity.
