15th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize certificate [Photo/Shandong University]
Feng Shiqing, president of the Second Hospital of Shandong University in Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, recently was honored with the 15th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize from the Chinese Academy of Engineering for his significant contributions in the field of spinal cord and nerve repair and regeneration.
Feng has dedicated himself to both basic and clinical research on spinal cord and nerve injuries and degeneration. He pioneered the "Microenvironment Imbalance Theory of Spinal Cord Injury" and led the establishment of standardized diagnosis and treatment systems for spinal cord injuries and lumbar and sacral nerve root diseases in China.
He has overseen 23 key projects including national key R&D programs, major national natural science foundation projects, and international collaborations. He has published 380 papers, edited or contributed to 18 books, secured 22 patents, and received multiple prestigious awards.
The Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award has been presented to Chinese engineering science and technology experts and scientists every two years since 1996 to commend their important contributions and outstanding achievements in the fields of engineering science and technology and engineering management. It is considered the highest honor in China's engineering field.
A total of 383 scientists and one group from various engineering disciplines such as mechanical, transportation, information technology, electronics, chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and engineering management have been honored over the years.
In this year's selection, one individual received the "Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Achievement Prize", while 40 individuals were awarded the "Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize".
