The inauguration ceremony for the School of Outstanding Engineers at Shandong University and the Shandong Provincial Alliance for the Cultivation of Outstanding Engineers was held at the central campus of Shandong University on July 24.
The event was attended by notable figures such as Wang Fuming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Chen Wenjian, president of China Railway Construction Corporation, as well as officials from the Ministry of Education, Shandong University and the provincial government.
Ren Youqun, Party secretary of Shandong University, highlighted the university's commitment to engineering education and talent cultivation, particularly in emerging fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, new energy, and new materials.
He emphasized the importance of integrating industry and academia to foster a new generation of exceptional engineers who can contribute to national development and innovation.
Luan Zongtao, deputy director-general of the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education, expressed hope that Shandong University will provide a model for the reform of doctoral programs in engineering nationwide.
Gong Wendong, deputy head of the Organizational Department of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, highlighted the significance of the school and alliance in supporting the development of a modern industrial system in Shandong.
It is essential to systematically cultivate outstanding engineering talent, promote technological innovation in an organized manner, and serve national strategies and regional economic and social development, Gong said.
