Mrs. Carrie Lam, former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, visited Shandong University (SDU) on Nov 18 and delivered a keynote speech.
During her speech, Carrie Lam said that more efforts will be made in deepening exchanges between students from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. She also highlighted the focus on promoting collaborative research and scholar exchanges between Hong Kong universities and Shandong University in fields such as mathematics and archaeology.
Carrie Lam also encouraged more outstanding students to contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and to the "One Country, Two Systems" practice.
Shandong University President Li Shucai welcomed Carrie Lam's visit and briefed her on the university's 123 years of history. He said that Shandong University has been fostering educational exchanges with Hong Kong and leveraging cooperation platforms to enhance collaboration with Hong Kong universities in talent cultivation, scientific research and innovation, and cultural exchanges.
Li added that Shandong University will intensify efforts to promote coordinated innovation and the high-quality development of higher education in Shandong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, contributing to the advancement of Chinese-style modernization.
Carrie Lam also shared her insights with faculty and students on building a skilled workforce in social work, fostering youth exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, and creating a favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship. During her visit, she also toured the university's exhibition on archaeological achievements.
