The Shandong University men's football team emerged victorious on Nov 25 in the 2024 Qilu Super League of East China's Shandong Province, securing both the championship title and the fair play award.
The team also earned the opportunity to represent Shandong in the 2025 season of the Chinese Football Association Member Association Champions League (CMCL). Head coach Zhang Liguo was honored with the title of "Best Coach", while team member Zhai Shoufeng was named "Best Athlete".
At this year's tournament, the Shandong University football team competed as the representative of higher education institutions in Shandong province, alongside 11 other champion teams from various cities. The competition was fierce, with the Shandong University team demonstrating exceptional athletic prowess and outstanding teamwork.
Facing the formidable Jinan Quansheng United in the final, Shandong University team members found themselves trailing by a goal early in the match. However, they remained calm and composed throughout. Through seamless teamwork and precise passing, they managed to score three crucial goals at key moments, ultimately clinching the championship with a 3-1 victory.
The Qilu Super League in Shandong Province was established in 2015 as a preliminary stage of the CMCL. The top four winners will represent Shandong in the final stage of the CMCL competition.
