The award ceremony of the 21st "Huawei Cup" China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling was held at Shandong University's central campus on Dec 8.

The championship was claimed by the team from Shandong University, consisting of Zhang Liangshou, Zhao Jia, and Wang Shuo. Second and third places were secured by teams from the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology and the Southeast University, respectively.

Wu Zhen, executive vice-president of Shandong University, attended the awarding ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

“Mathematical modeling plays a vital role in transforming theoretical research into practical applications and servers as a key driver in reforming the cultivation system for innovative mathematical talent,” said Wu in his speech.

According to Wu, Shandong University, one of the organizers of the contest, will continue to strengthen collaboration with universities, governments, and enterprises and enhance the quality of independent talent cultivation and foster top-tier innovative mathematical talent.

The Contest has become a major platform for postgraduate students to enhance their ability to build mathematical models and apply internet information technology to solve practical problems. The registration for this year's competition began on June 1, attracting 21,795 postgraduate teams from 523 institutions, marking a record high in the number of participating teams.
